Batang berupa buluh (<em>culm<\/em>), bersegitiga, kaku, tebal, tinggi dapat mencapai ca. 90 cm. <strong>Daun <\/strong>tunggal, semi-menjangat, lebih panjang dari buluh batang; pangkal daun berpelepah kecoklatan; helaian memita-panjang; pangkal daun melipat, tepi daun kasap ke bagian ujung. <strong>Daun<\/strong> <strong>pembalut <\/strong>3\u20135, seperti daun, di pangkal perbungaan dan bercabang, bagian bawah kebanyakan lebih panjang dari perbungaan, tidak berpelepah. <strong>Perbungaan <\/strong>tandan berbulir, berbentuk bulat telur-bulat sampai semi-bulat, bulir banyak, rakis dan anak rakis sudutnya kasap. Bulir bulat telur sungsang, atau bulat saat dewasa dengan banyak daun gagang seperti sekam (<em>glume<\/em>), kecoklatan, spiral, dan tersusun menyirap, membundar telur sungsang, masing-masing membentuk spikelet semu, ujungnya membundar dan bertusuk. Spikelet-semu dengan 2 sekam (<em>glume<\/em>), 2 bunga jantan dan 1 bunga betina; sekam coklat, lateral dan berhadapan, memerahu, menyelaput, berlunas, berpautan pada sisi adaksial, lunas berduri-duri halus, masing-masing dengan bunga betina. Tangkai sari ramping, kepala sari jorong menyempit. Putik 2. <strong>Buah <\/strong>geluk coklat keabu-abuan gelap, semi-bulat, pipih.<br \/>\n<\/span><b>Ekologi <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span>Persebaran alami dari wilayah Asia Tropis dan Subtropis sampai wilayah Pasifik bagian Barat, termasuk wilayah Malesia. Pada umumnya tumbuh pada ekosistem dataran rendah seperti di bawah kanopi hutan primer dan sekunder. Jenis ini terkadang ditemukan tumbuh pada areal yang terbuka dan menyukai substrat yang lembab. Tumbuh pada hutan riparian dan hutan lahan basah seperti hutan rawa.
