Berwarna cerah dan bersifat sosial, burung kicau berekor panjang ini sering dijumpai bertengger di atas tajuk atau terbang di atas kepala. Sangat mirip sepah hutan. Sepah hutan yang mirip memiliki dua bercak terang pada sayap yang terpisah, sedang pada sepah tulin bercak tersebut menyambung. Pada bulu jantan dewasa, sepah lain secara keseluruhan lebih besar dan lebih merah cerah (dibanding lebih banyak oranye).
