Deskripsi : Liana, memanjat pada pohon di sekitarnya, batang keras dan kaku, kecoklatan sampai hitam; tunas pucuk muda terkadang dengan rambut menggimbal kecoklatan, padat, kemudian menggundul. Daun tunggal, menjangat, berseling; helai daun melojong−membundar telur; pangkal daun menjatung atau semi-menjatung; ujung daun melancip sampai meruncing; tepi daun mengutuh; pertulangan daun 5−25, jelas menonjol di permukaan bawah daun; permukaan atas daun terdapat indumentum berambut semi-gundul, pada tulang daun utama terdapat rambut-rambut menggimbal, permukaan bawah daun berambut gimbal atau semi-menggimbal. Perbungaan majemuk, aksiler atau berhadapan dengan daun, bunga majemuk tersusun dalam bongkol, perhiasan bunga tidak teramati. Buah monokarp, berjumlah sekitar 10−20, berdaging; bulat telur sampai bulat memanjang; hijau terang saat muda, permukaan semi-gundul; jingga atau kuning sampai merah marun dan hitam pekat saat masak, daging buah lembut. Biji lonjong-pipih, 10−14 butir.
Ekologi : Persebaran alami dari wilayah Assam, Banglades, Filipina, India, Indonesia (Sumatra, Jawa, Kalimantan, Sulawesi, Maluku, Sunda Kecil), Kambodia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Papua Nugini, P. Andaman, P. Nicobar, P. Solomon, Sri Lanka, Thailand, dan Vietnam. Tumbuh di hutan riparian lahan basah Mesangat−Suwi. Referensi: Meade & Parnell, 2018; Mukhlis et al., 2018.

IUCN Red List Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), or in Indonesian, Serikat Internasional Untuk Pelestarian Alam, makes decisions to determine the conservation status of a species or plant. The current categories of the IUCN Red List criteria include extinct (EX), extinct in the wild (EW), critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN), vulnerable (VU), near threatened (NT), least concern (LC), data deficient (DD), and not evaluated (NE).
The CITES List Status
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) , aims to restrict countries from trading protected flora and fauna or those with extremely limited numbers. The CITES status consists of appendices (attachments) numbered I-III. Appendix I is a list of flora and fauna that absolutely cannot be traded because they are critically endangered. Appendix II is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded, but their numbers are limited. Meanwhile, Appendix III is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded because they are abundant in one country but limited in another.
