Deskripsi : Terna, perenial, berakar pada ruas atau mengapung, akar nafas biasanya tidak ada pada batang yang mengapung, tetapi terkadang ada pada batang yang di dalam air; batang bercabang, tegak, gundul. Daun tunggal; melonjong−melanset; pangkal daun membaji menyempit; ujung daun meruncing sampai melancip; tepi daun mengutuh; permukaan daun hijau. Perbungaan soliter, aksiler, berseling. Bunga biseksual, berukuran sedang dan jelas, kuncup bunga hijau-bulat telur; kelopak berjumlah 5, mendelta sampai meruncing, gundul atau memasai, kehijauan. Mahkota bunga berjumlah 5, kuning terang, membundar telur sungsang. Benang sari 10, tangkai sari kuning terang, kepala sari membonggol kekuningan; serbuk sari jelas. Putik kuning, kepala putik bulat-pipih, berlobus 5-dalam. Buah kapsul, silinder, bersudut-5, menirus tajam ke bagian dasar, kehijauan, coklat terang saat dewasa, gundul, berdinding tebal, berpendar secara perlahan dan tidaj teratur. Biji tersusun berbaris dalam setiap rongga.
Ekologi : Persebaran alami dari benua Amerika, Cina bagian Tenggara, Jepang samapi Nansei-shoto, dan Australia. Pada umumnya tumbuh pada areal yang terbuka dan habitat lahan basah termasuk tepi sungai dan rawa. Referensi: Chen et al., 2007.

IUCN Red List Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), or in Indonesian, Serikat Internasional Untuk Pelestarian Alam, makes decisions to determine the conservation status of a species or plant. The current categories of the IUCN Red List criteria include extinct (EX), extinct in the wild (EW), critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN), vulnerable (VU), near threatened (NT), least concern (LC), data deficient (DD), and not evaluated (NE).
The CITES List Status
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) , aims to restrict countries from trading protected flora and fauna or those with extremely limited numbers. The CITES status consists of appendices (attachments) numbered I-III. Appendix I is a list of flora and fauna that absolutely cannot be traded because they are critically endangered. Appendix II is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded, but their numbers are limited. Meanwhile, Appendix III is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded because they are abundant in one country but limited in another.
