Nama
: Ara.
Deskripsi : Pohon atau perdu, hemi-epifit, kadang memanjar; tinggi sekitar 15 m. Daun penumpu ada. Daun tunggal, menjangat, tebal; daun tersusun spiral; helai daun melonjong sampai membundar telur sungsang, pangkal daun membundar sampai menumpul; ujung daun meruncing sampai menumpul; tepi daun menggulung terbalik atau kebanyak rata; permukaan daun atas gundul; permukaan bawah daun dengan rambut-rambut balig halus di bagian tulang daun utama; pertulangan daun lateral 6−12 pasang; terdapat kelenjar lilin pada pangkal daun; permukaan daun hijau terang. Perbungaan pasuan atau periuk (sikonium), aksiler, berpasangan atau soliter, tidak bertangkai; daun gagang 3 helai, semi-rata, biasanya bertaji lemah, berambut balig halus berwarna putih, berkanjang. Buah longkah, semi-bulat telur sampai bulat telur, merah sampai hitam saat kering.
Ekologi : Persebaran alami daerah Sumatra sampai Kalimantan. Pada umumnya tumbuh pada hutan primer dan hutan sekunder. Biasanya tumbuh pada habitat hutan dataran rendah seperti hutan rawa dan hutan pantai, seperti lahan basah Mesangat−Suwi. Referensi: Berg & Corner, 2005.

IUCN Red List Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), or in Indonesian, Serikat Internasional Untuk Pelestarian Alam, makes decisions to determine the conservation status of a species or plant. The current categories of the IUCN Red List criteria include extinct (EX), extinct in the wild (EW), critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN), vulnerable (VU), near threatened (NT), least concern (LC), data deficient (DD), and not evaluated (NE).
The CITES List Status
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) , aims to restrict countries from trading protected flora and fauna or those with extremely limited numbers. The CITES status consists of appendices (attachments) numbered I-III. Appendix I is a list of flora and fauna that absolutely cannot be traded because they are critically endangered. Appendix II is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded, but their numbers are limited. Meanwhile, Appendix III is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded because they are abundant in one country but limited in another.
