Nama : Ikan Kesong/Forest snakehead
Deskripsi : Bercak sisik pada bagian gular. Kepala dan tubuh dengan 2 garis tebal yang membentang dari ujung moncong ke tengah sirip ekor, satu di bagian atas dan satu lagi di bagian bawah tubuh. Seiring pertumbuhan garis-garis tersebut secara bertahap pecah menjadi beberapa bagian. Terdapat bercak hitam pada ikan dewasa (Musikasinthorn 2001) dan bagian perut terdapat palang miring berjumlah 5 baris sisik antara garis lateral dan pangkal sinar punggung anterior (Kottelar 2001).
Habitat : Ikan ini merupakan ikan generalis yang dapat ditemukan di berbagai jenis habitat, meskipun cenderung menghindari air yang berarus deras (Rainboth 1996). Berada diperairan bersuhu 24-29 “C, pH 5,56,0 atau kurang (Lee dan Ng 1994). Lebih menyukai rawa-rawa hutan dan sungai-sungai hutan (Vidthayanon 2002). Sering ditemukan di daerah dengan banyak vegetasi air, serta tanaman berkayu yang terendam. Memakan ikan, udang, dan kepiting, serta sedikit udang.
Sebaran : Tersebar di Laos, Kamboja, Vietnam, Thailand, Myanmar, dan Semenanjung Malaysia, dan Indonesia

IUCN Red List Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), or in Indonesian, Serikat Internasional Untuk Pelestarian Alam, makes decisions to determine the conservation status of a species or plant. The current categories of the IUCN Red List criteria include extinct (EX), extinct in the wild (EW), critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN), vulnerable (VU), near threatened (NT), least concern (LC), data deficient (DD), and not evaluated (NE).
The CITES List Status
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) , aims to restrict countries from trading protected flora and fauna or those with extremely limited numbers. The CITES status consists of appendices (attachments) numbered I-III. Appendix I is a list of flora and fauna that absolutely cannot be traded because they are critically endangered. Appendix II is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded, but their numbers are limited. Meanwhile, Appendix III is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded because they are abundant in one country but limited in another.
