Nama
: Bungur.
Deskripsi : Pohon, kecil atau sedang, 40−45 m, diameter batang dapat mencapai 100 cm, bergalar, banir kecil, meranggas atau semi-meranggas. Kulit batang mengeripih kecil-kecil, permukaan halus, abu-abu sampai coklat kekuningan-moreng kecoklatan; pepagan bagian dalam menyerabut, abu-abu sampai coklat kekuning-kuningan. Daun tunggal, berseling-berderet dua, tepi mengutuh. Perbungaan malai, terminal atau aksiler. Bunga besar, kelopak bunga berbentuk corong atau lonceng, cuping berjumlah 6 atau 9, daun mahkota berjumlah 6 helai, letaknya masuk dekat mulut tabung kelopak; putih sampai jambon atau ungu, mencakar atau berkerut. Benang sari banyak, tersusun dalam beberapa baris. Bakal buah superior, berlokus 3−6 dengan banyak bakal biji, tangkai putik-1. Buah kapsul, mengayu, besar, kelopak berkanjang. Biji bersayap di ujungnya.
Ekologi : Persebaran alami dari wilayah Yunan (Cina) sampai daerah asia tropis, termasuk kawasan Malesia. Pada umumnya tumbuh pada areal yang terbuka di hutan primer atau sekunder, banyak tumbuh di hutan riparian, habitat tepi sungai, hutan lahan basah (rawa, rawa-gambut). Tumbuhan ini terkadang dibudidayakan untuk tanaman hias di ekosistem urban sebagai tanaman peneduh atau tanaman ornamental.
Kegunaan : Pohon dimanfaatkan sebagai tanaman ornamental banyak dijumpai pada ekosistem urban sebagai tanaman penghijauan dan peneduh. Referensi: Yii, 1996; Kessler & Sidiyasa, 1994.

IUCN Red List Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), or in Indonesian, Serikat Internasional Untuk Pelestarian Alam, makes decisions to determine the conservation status of a species or plant. The current categories of the IUCN Red List criteria include extinct (EX), extinct in the wild (EW), critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN), vulnerable (VU), near threatened (NT), least concern (LC), data deficient (DD), and not evaluated (NE).
The CITES List Status
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) , aims to restrict countries from trading protected flora and fauna or those with extremely limited numbers. The CITES status consists of appendices (attachments) numbered I-III. Appendix I is a list of flora and fauna that absolutely cannot be traded because they are critically endangered. Appendix II is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded, but their numbers are limited. Meanwhile, Appendix III is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded because they are abundant in one country but limited in another.
