Deskripsi : Terna, perenial, berimpang; terestrial atau akuatik; batang tegak, beruas-jelas, tinggi dapat mencapai 50 cm atau 90 cm atau dapat mencapai 200 cm, kokoh, berambut balig, tunggal atau bercabang di atas. Daun tunggal, berseling; tangkai daun 5−8 mm, berbulu sikat sangat padat; melanset atau menjorong sampai melanset, kedua permukaan daun berambut balig; pangkal daun membaji; ujung daun melancip; tepi daun mengutuh dan berambut silia; selaput bumbung menabung, menyelaput, berbulu sikat, ujungnya rompogn, bersilia. Perbungaan terminal, berbuliran tegak, 3−8 cm, beberapa bulir beragregat dan seperti malai, sangat jarang soliter; daun gagang mencorong, gundul, tepi bersilia, masing-masing berbunga 3−5 kuntum. Tangkai bunga pendek. Perhiasan bunga putih atau kehijauan, terdiri atas 5 bagian, jorong. Benang sari 5−8; putik 3; kepala putik mementol. Buah longkah, perhiasan bunga berkanjang, hitam, terang, bulat telur tebalik, bersudut-3.
Ekologi : Persebaran alami dari wilayah Semenanjung Arab sampai Asia Tropis dan Subtropis, termasuk kawasan Malesia. Pada umumnya tumbuh pada habitat lahan basah, sangat invasif pada areal lahan basah yang sangat terbuka tanpa tegakan pohon. Catatan: Jenis ini memiliki kerabat dekat dengan P. celebica, sehingga perlu kehati-hatian dan perbandingan spesimen saat identifikasi cepat di lapangan. Referensi: Li et al., 2003.

IUCN Red List Status
The International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), or in Indonesian, Serikat Internasional Untuk Pelestarian Alam, makes decisions to determine the conservation status of a species or plant. The current categories of the IUCN Red List criteria include extinct (EX), extinct in the wild (EW), critically endangered (CR), endangered (EN), vulnerable (VU), near threatened (NT), least concern (LC), data deficient (DD), and not evaluated (NE).
The CITES List Status
CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) , aims to restrict countries from trading protected flora and fauna or those with extremely limited numbers. The CITES status consists of appendices (attachments) numbered I-III. Appendix I is a list of flora and fauna that absolutely cannot be traded because they are critically endangered. Appendix II is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded, but their numbers are limited. Meanwhile, Appendix III is a list of flora and fauna that can be traded because they are abundant in one country but limited in another.
